The Master’s Programme in Intercultural Encounters combines fields of study such as area and cultural studies, theology and study of religions, communication studies, and indigenous studies. Most courses are not discipline based, but rather follow a few key themes. Students have told me that this is one of the best qualities of the programme – a truly interdisciplinary approach to intercultural issues.” Saila Poutiainen is the Programme Director for the International Master’s Programme in Intercultural Encounters at the University of Helsinki. In this programme, you focus on questions of religion and conflicts, human interaction, living traditions, and transnationalism through four thematic modules. Graduates get to apply their theoretical grasp to everyday situations. In their multicultural and internationally oriented working life they deal with issues such as intercultural interaction, diversity, internationalisation, cultural management, the media and power. You can apply to our International Master’s Programmes as of 3 December 2018 until 11 January 2019.

In an ever more international world, expertise in national law is not enough. In the future, lawyers must be adept in the application of several judicial systems. According to professor Jaakko Husa, this is a strong point for lawyers educated in the Anglo-Saxon legal system – familiar with the system of precedents – as they approach each case separately in a solution-oriented manner.
