Meet the teacher! In 1992, Andrew Newby was in the north of Scotland visiting archaeological and historical sites. These trips to the Highlands and Islands with his classmates sparked his interest in memorials and the uses of historical memory. Today, Andrew is a historian teaching in the Master’s Programme in European and Nordic Studies. ”I hope there is a mutual benefit in students getting to hear the latest research in a particular field, and my own research certainly benefits from presenting it in a classroom setting and being challenged by the students.” Applications to our 35 International Master’s Programmes are open now. Apply before 15 Jan 2021.

How has the religion encouraged and driven people to make the world a better place? Professor Katharina Kunter studies Christians whose actions shaped the contemporary Europe. "Sometimes I discover people who have shaped recent European history in a special way – yet nobody knows them. I'm particularly happy when these people are still alive and I can interview them as contemporary witnesses. Then history connects with the presence and comes to life."

Study confirms the existence of the phenomenon observed by many: people’s attitudes to the environment and refugees correlate with each other.
